Beyond the Breach: How Doxxing and Deepfakes Produce Cyber Harm

September 15 @ 1:15 pm - 2:30 pm

Cybersecurity is often framed around intrusion, malware, and unauthorized access. This presentation moves beyond that narrow view by examining how information itself can produce cyber harm. It brings together doxxing, which exposes authentic personal information, and deepfakes, which make fabricated content appear authentic. Using a socio-technical perspective, the talk explains how people, technologies, organizational processes, and institutions shape the credibility, reach, exploitation, and persistence of harm. It also considers how exposed information can enable more convincing fabrication. The presentation concludes with practical responses for individuals, technology providers, organizations, and policymakers.
