The Charlotte YP (Young Professionals) and UNCC (University of North Carolina at Charlotte) Student Chapter collaborated to organize a workshop focused on enhancing skills related to resume writing and the interview process. The Career Craft Workshop, held on 15th June, 2024, was a resounding success with over 40 attendees eager to gain valuable career guidance. The event featured industry experts who shared their knowledge and practical tips on navigating the modern job market.
Workshop Highlights:
Resume Writing: Judith Allwood, the opening speaker, provided insights into the resume screening process. Attendees learned how to craft impactful resumes, avoid common pitfalls, and make their applications stand out.
Interviewing Skills: Anu Joshi, the following speaker, offered a step-by-step guide to excelling in interviews. Her extensive experience and personal anecdotes made the session both informative and engaging.
Panel Discussion: The workshop concluded with a dynamic panel discussion featuring representatives from Netflix (Thiara Ortiz), Amazon (Elango Sundar), and our guest speakers Anu Joshi and Judith Allwood. Moderated by Logan Davis, the panel addressed various questions from students and recent graduates, offering insights into today’s corporate culture and expectations.
Outcomes:
The Career Craft Workshop equipped participants with valuable tools and fostered a productive dialogue between industry leaders and aspiring professionals. Attendees gained practical skills to enhance their career prospects. The workshop recording will be posted on the organizer’s YouTube Channel. Presentation slides will be emailed to event participants. The next workshop, co-hosted with the Computer Society, will focus on “Generative AI: Friend or Foe for Young Professionals”
