It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I have put together this short report on the IEEE Young Professionals activities within Nigeria. The Young Professionals group is chaired by Abdullateef Aliyu, a telecommunication Engineer and senior manager with Phase3 Telecom.

Young Professionals of Nigeria
The YP group is very active and runs a very popular webinar series. This webinar forms part of the quarterly webinar series and the topic is based on the outcome of regular polls conducted by the members of the affinity group. This is a very good way of engaging with members and delivering topics that actively promote participation. One of the upcoming webinars focuses on “Optical Fibre Deployment in Nigeria”. This part 1 will address most challenges related to Optical fibre deployment that include and not limited to planning, execution and optical link budget.

A well defined strategic plan
The YP group has developed a well defined strategic plan which involves: assisting with unemployment, student recruitment, publications prioritisation, focus on awards, major project involvement and numerous technical/non technical meetings.

The YP group was also awarded the outstanding affinity group award in 2014, a testament to the hard work and dedication of the chair and his team of volunteers.

The GOLDRush team would like to congratulate the IEEE Young Professionals of Nigeria for their dedication and hard work.

If you would like to keep up to date with their activities or you are a IEEE member in Nigeria wishing to join this great group of volunteers then please visit their official Facebook Page. You can also follow the group on Twiter
