On March 28, 2024, the BYU student branch under the Eastern Idaho Section, in collaboration with IEEE Young Professionals, hosted an empowering event titled “Engineering Your Career”.
This event, aimed at graduating ECEN/CSE seniors and their spouses, provided invaluable insights into navigating the transition from student life to becoming a full-time engineer. The evening kicked off with a warm welcome from the organizers, setting the stage for an enriching experience ahead. Attendees were treated to a delightful dinner as they mingled and networked with fellow peers and industry professionals.
Throughout the event, participants were not only inspired by Chad’s insights but also had the opportunity to engage in thought-provoking discussions and exchange ideas with one another. From sharing personal experiences to seeking guidance on technical societies and IEEE’s divisions, the atmosphere was buzzing with enthusiasm and camaraderie.
Chaitali Naik, PE, Team Lead – System Studies & MV Collection at NEI and IEEE USA Early Career Rep, 2024, shared her thoughts on the event, emphasizing the importance of networking and staying connected with the IEEE community beyond graduation. “As a young professional, I not only gained insights but also had the opportunity to network with numerous graduating students who had various inquiries regarding technical societies and IEEE’s divisions. I encouraged them to maintain their IEEE membership post-graduation to stay connected with the IEEE community, particularly the Young Professionals, regardless of their future locations”.
As the evening drew to a close, attendees left with newfound knowledge, inspiration, and a sense of belonging to a supportive community of engineers and professionals. The “Engineering Your Career” event served as a catalyst for personal and professional growth, equipping participants with the tools and confidence to embark on their career journeys with purpose and determination.
To conclude, “Engineering Your Career” exemplifies the spirit of IEEE Young Professionals in empowering the next generation of engineers and leaders. It was made possible with the assistance of YP Step funding. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the organizers, volunteers, and speakers who made this event a resounding success. Special thanks to Ian and Max for their dedicated efforts in coordinating and ensuring the smooth execution of the event.
Stay tuned for updates on upcoming events and initiatives from IEEE Young Professionals. Together, let us continue to shape the future of engineering and make a positive impact on the world.
