Compiling for Trapped Ion Quantum Computers
February 16 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
We are in the nascent stage of creating quantum computers, analogous to creating classical computers in the 1940s and 1950s. Quantum computers have the possibility of having major implications for algorithms in scientific computing, economics, and computer security. Many novel quantum computer architectures abound, including trapped ion computing, which will be introduced along with the basic ways quantum programs are written. After this introduction, the problem of compiling quantum programs for a simple trapped ion device will be presented. In particular, the problem of optimally moving ions around a trap will be focused on.
