Engineering Futures: Transitioning from Student to Professional

March 19 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

As Chair of the IEEE Young Professionals Canadian Atlantic Section, please join us for an insightful evening on Tuesday, March 19th, 6-8 PM at the Dalhousie University campus, Room D406, for a panel discussion on navigating the early stages of an engineering career; our panelists include:
Rebecca Acker – Completed her Diploma in Engineering at St. Francis Xavier University before moving onto Dalhousie University where she graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering in 2022. She is now an Engineer-In-Training at Dillon Consulting Limited, focusing on waste management.
Luke MacDonald – A Lecturer at Saint Mary's University teaching primarily Civil Engineering related courses such as Statics & Mechanics of Materials. Luke began his education (also) at Saint Mary’s University, receiving an Engineering Diploma, before moving onto Dalhousie University where he completed undergraduate and Master of Applied Science degrees in Civil Engineering. Professional work experience includes 3 co-op terms with Public Works Government Services Canada (Marine group), 5 years as a bridge/heavy civil designer at CBCL Ltd., and some residential consulting work.
Kevin Schwarzer – Graduated from Dalhousie at the end of 2022 and has been working since then as an EIT in Marine Electrical Engineering, located in the HFX Dockyard for the Department of National Defence. As a previous Co-op student ambassador, chair of several student groups, and part-time instructor, he has a wide array of experiences to draw on moving into his professional career. Kevin is now an active volunteer with the IEEE Canadian Atlantic Section, and is always looking at more ways to engage with students and young professionals alike.
