Moriah Hargrove completed her undergraduate studies in Electrical Engineering at the University of Houston during 2013-2017 and is currently practicing law as a Patent Agent at Fletcher Yoder. Her Patent prosecution practice includes cutting-edge memory management, FPGAs and semiconductor technologies, display technologies, power generator and motor technologies, signal processing, and measurement techniques. Moriah was awarded the most active member scholarship during 2015/16 as a testament to her commitment to the IEEE. Along with IEEE, she was also actively associated with the Honors Student Governing Board, Society of Women Engineers (SWE), and Center for Arts Leadership Student Board at her college. As an undergraduate student, she worked as an Electrical Reliability Summer Intern at INEOS and Instrumentation Reliability Summer Assistant at Marathon Petroleum Corporation. She further served as a Senior Residential Advisor for a consecutive period of two years during 2015-2017. She is selected as one among prestigious Phillips 66 Fueling Future Engineers for the year 2017. Apart from this, she has also received various scholarships like Chevron/Gulf Scholarship, S.I.P. Charitable Foundation Scholarship, Thomas R. & Richard S. Franklin Scholarship, Academic Excellence Scholarship, and several others.
???????? Who is your role model and why?
My role model is Ruth Bader Ginsburg because her worth ethic and professional history are inspiring. Ginsburg was one of the first female law students at Harvard and made law review while supporting her husband and son. That doesn’t even touch upon the additional challenge of her husband battling cancer/ severe health issues. I would recommend watching one of the recent documentaries about her.
???? What is your most significant accomplishment so far?
Definitely passing my patent bar and becoming a patent agent. Getting to this point professionally required getting my engineering degree and a lot of pain, long nights, and declined invitations to parties…but it has been so worth it.
???????? Where do you see yourself in a year?
Applying to law schools and probably on a cruise in the Galapagos getting ready to dive with whale sharks!
????♀️ What has being an IEEE Young Professional(YP) volunteer done for your life/ career?
Being an IEEE and a YP volunteer has permitted me to refine my planning and organising skills, in addition to connecting with great people who have turned into cherished friends. Being a volunteer has also permitted me to stand out within the organisation and in interviews.

???? Best advice for YPs to get involved?
Reach out to your section chair and help organise an event. Many of the YP chairs are too busy to even ask for help and it can be a huge help just to step up and take initiative!
