Singapore Young Professionals on “Ideal Jobs”

As the academic year is drawing to an end, many students have currently started their lookout for suitable jobs matching their profile. Landing in a high profiled position with a good salary package, opportunities for learning and growing inside the organization will definitely be the first choice for students who will soon be graduating as next generation engineers.
Having this in mind, the IEEE Young Professionals chapter of Singapore Section successfully conducted a career talk on “Ideal Jobs for Graduating Students” in association with BestTop Career Consulting, Singapore. The speakers of the talk were Mr. William Tan – Director at Norman Search Partners, Dr. Tony Jin – CEO and Co-founder of BestTop Career Consulting, Ms. Clara Jiang – Recruitment Consultant at Randstad.

The talk was held on 24th February 2016 from 7:30 PM to 9:00 PM at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The target audience for the event was masters and post graduate students from various engineering domains.

The talk highlighted about the 3Ps (Passion, Potential and Personality) that any HR manager will look for in a candidate during the selection process. Practical resume writing tips to stand out of the crowd were given by the speakers. The speakers also encouraged the students to effectively expand their social media presence on sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and utilize them as an active platform for job seeking in addition to connecting with friends. Different strategies and channels for job searching and grabbing an ideal job were discussed apart from this. Since the speakers were HRs and recruiters themselves, the students clearly got a first-hand information about the industry expectations and this will enable the students to prepare accordingly for acing any interview. The talk finally concluded with a short student networking session with the speakers.
