Young Professional Activities during IEEE Sensors 2018

A Young Professionals meetup comprising a welcome reception, Halloween party and networking dinner was organised on the first day of IEEE Sensors 2018, 28-31 Oct 2018 held at Hotel Pullman, New Delhi, India. Around 80 Young Professionals interacted informally and discussed their present work, future collaborations, and scope to work outside their organisations. The meetup was co-sponsored by IEEE Sensors Council and IEEE Young Professionals.

On the second day of the conference, a Professional Development Program and ‘Young Professionals and WiSe Mentoring Round Table: Lunch with the Experts’ were organised for Young Professionals.

The first session of the Professional Development Program was held as a panel discussion on ‘Publishing in Journals and the Review Process’ where the panellists addressed the general doubts of researchers such as ‘how and what to publish,’ ‘how to enhance readership,’ and ‘difference between IEEE Sensors journal and letters,’ – to name a few. The next session was about IEEE Sensors Council Young Professionals Programme and IEEE Sensors Council Young Professional Representative, Hadi Heidari and IEEE Sensors Council Young Professional Award Committee Chair, Alper Bozkurt presented on the topic. The second session of the Professional Development Program consisted of a talk by Elfed Lewis, IEEE Sensors Council VP Technical Operations on ‘IEEE Sensors Council Activities.’ This was followed by a panel discussion on the topic ‘Work of the Future’.

Young Professionals and WiSe Mentoring Round Table: Lunch with the Experts session which was held during lunchtime as a part of the conference gave an opportunity to all the Young Professional and the female participants to interact with experts in relevant areas of sensors for discussing career development. Participants were assigned a table based on their relevant topics (with an additional table specifically for Women in Sensors) in a setting that fostered attendee/ expert interactions and provided networking opportunities with leaders in the field.

In all, the IEEE Sensors Council Young Professional activities were concluded to be on the very successful events of the IEEE Sensors 2018. ????
