IEEE Young Professionals Philippines Affinity Group, in partnership with IEEE Mapua University Student Branch and IEEE Republic of Philippines Section, conducted its 2nd Annual Student Transition and Elevation Partnership and Young Professionals Meet virtually on August 22, 2020, via ZOOM. The event was attended by IEEE members, IEEE student members, and non-IEEE members who were interested to be part of the IEEE community.
The event aimed to provide a dynamic program for facilitating the transition from IEEE student members to Young Professionals by introducing the opportunities and benefits of IEEE membership. In addition, the event served as a venue for the fellowships of IEEE Young Professionals in the Philippines. To promote and expand the IEEE growing community, the registration was also extended to interested students and young professionals who would like to be a part of the largest technical professional organization globally.
Christian Enoval, Chair of Young Professionals Philippines, officially opened the event as the event host by greeting all the participants. After the invocation, Dr. Rhandley Cajote, Chair, IEEE Republic of Philippines Section, delivered the welcoming remarks where he shared the current membership status of the section. It was followed by a keynote speech from the Young Professional Coordinator of South East Asia region, Dr. Arjun Ramaswami Palaniappan who is also the Vice-Chair of Young Professionals Singapore. He shared the current status of Young Professionals in the SEA region including the group’s upcoming activities and elaborated on the opportunities for Young Professional members.
The importance of networking was also discussed by the invited guest speaker, Dr. Sajid Choudhury, Chair, Young Professionals Bangladesh. He emphasized the benefits of networking to early career and the opportunities to network in IEEE activities. Rhen Anjerome Bedruz, the Young Professional Coordinator of the Republic of Philippines Section, shadowed the discussion by highlighting the benefits of IEEE membership, encouraging all graduating members to continue their memberships with IEEE as young professionals.
After the guest speeches, there was a panel discussion to cater to the questions from the audience.
The event was concluded by Christian, Chair, Young Professionals Philippines; He presented the accomplishment report for the previous year, shared the best practices of IEEE Young Professionals Philippines, mentioned the group’s upcoming activities for the rest of the year and he thanked the speakers, co-organizers, and the audience for making the event a success.
