Society/Council YP Reps Guide 2025

This guidebook provides comprehensive guidance for Society and Council Young Professional (YP) representatives, who are appointed volunteers serving as the primary link between their respective IEEE Society or Council and the global IEEE YP community. Please note that throughout this document, the term Society is used inclusively to refer to both Societies and Councils.
This guidebook outlines how representatives can serve as a vital link between their Society/Council and the IEEE YP global community, ensuring that all initiatives align with the Society’s mission and contribute to strategic planning. It also covers practical steps like maintaining an updated role listing Society websites, and rosters. Finally, it provides actionable insights on how to lead and deliver high-impact activities.

Young Professionals​

The IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is a professional organization, which provides the latest technical knowledge for its members through conferences, journals, workshops, and continued education, for the advancement of technology for humanity. With more than 480,000 members in more than 190 countries, IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional society.

IEEE has a dual complementary regional and technical structure, based on geographic distribution and technical focus. IEEE Young Professionals (YPs) program exists to specifically serve young members who are spread across different regional and technical units of IEEE.

Any IEEE member who has graduated from their first degree of education in the past 15 years is automatically included to be a part of the IEEE Young Professionals, free of charge.

YP is a global community committed to empowering early career individuals in their transition from student to professional life. IEEE YP committee, design and lead programs that directly benefit their members, including career development resources, leadership training, community-building initiatives, and volunteer opportunities. By collaborating within IEEE (Regions, Societies and Councils) and external organisations, YPs ensure that their efforts reflect the real needs and aspirations of early career members, while contributing to a stronger and more connected IEEE community. Other IEEE members can also opt-in to get involved with IEEE Young Professionals. Members of this community are interested in elevating their professional image, expanding their global network, connecting with peers locally and giving back to the community.
